247 Journalist Igor Gielow believes that the announcement of new US sanctions against Russia at a time when Vladimir Putin, alongside the BRICS nations, is celebrating a show of strength with the creation of a joint bank, could strengthen the Russian president.

"The Obama administration's latest attack against Putin still needs to be quantified, but its timing couldn't be more coldly calculated," he says.
