Fux will be spared US sanctions, says Bolsonaro supporter Paulo Figueiredo.
A pro-Bolsonaro influencer claims that Fux differs from Moraes in his legal position and will not be sanctioned by the US.
247 - The pro-Bolsonaro influencer Paulo Figueiredo, based in the United States, has been vehemently opposing the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and its members. In a new chapter of his pronouncements, Figueiredo praised Minister Luiz Fux, highlighting his independent stance in contrast to his colleague Alexandre de Moraes. The statements were made at a crucial moment in Jair Bolsonaro's trial, in which Fux adopted a position firmly opposed to that of Moraes.
Figueiredo, known for his attacks on the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and his support for stricter policies advocated by the far right, wrote on social media that the difference between Fux and Moraes is intellectual in nature. “The difference between Minister Fux's vote and the others lies even at the intellectual level. The difference between a political discourse and a legal thesis. There is no denying that Fux honors the robe,” stated the Bolsonaro supporter, according to the journalist's column. Monica Bergamo, from Folha de S. Paulo.
According to the report, he also praised Fux's courage in facing internal pressures, contrasting his stance with that of Moraes, who, according to Figueiredo, represents a position closer to political control.
Sanctions and disagreement with Moraes
Figueiredo also addressed the issue of international sanctions and reaffirmed his position that Fux will be spared any external reprisals. "Fux doesn't disagree with tyrants out of fear of US sanctions. Indeed, he wasn't sanctioned along with his colleagues because there was already a perception that his position was divergent," the presenter wrote on social media. He argued that Fux, unlike Moraes, is not at risk of being included on the list of authorities sanctioned by the Magnitsky Act, American legislation aimed at penalizing human rights violators.
Figueiredo's Paper
The presenter, who maintains close ties with the Donald Trump administration, has been one of the most active voices in advocating for sanctions against Brazil, particularly regarding the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and its decisions. Figueiredo and Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL), son of Jair Bolsonaro (PL), have been working to pressure the United States to apply measures and sanctions against members of the STF whom they consider responsible for decisions related to the trial of the coup plot. Furthermore, he anticipated that Alexandre de Moraes would be included on the list of those to be sanctioned, but reaffirmed his confidence that Fux would not be affected by the sanctions.
