As a result of a coup, Temer speaks of democracy in Venezuela.

In power due to a coup that ousted the legitimately elected president, Michel Temer left a dinner with US President Donald Trump yesterday in New York defending actions to guarantee "democracy" in Venezuela; the meeting, promoted by Trump with Latin American leaders, seemed more like a US "indoctrination" session against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro; as could be expected, Temer left the dinner repeating what he learned from the American playbook: "The opinion of everyone is the need for a democratic resolution in Venezuela. There was a coincidence in the participants' positions"; on social media, the Brazilian was ridiculed for being the only one who needed to resort to headphones with simultaneous translation.

247 - In New York for the UN General Assembly, Michel Temer participated in a meeting hosted by US President Donald Trump with Latin American leaders. The dinner had a tone of indoctrination against the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

Temer, who is only in power because he conspired to overthrow Dilma Rousseff, the president legitimately elected at the polls, left the dinner repeating the American playbook and talking about the need to defend democracy in Venezuela.

On social media, Temer became the subject of ridicule for being the only one at the meeting who needed to use headphones with simultaneous translation.

According to Reuters, in his first hours in New York, Michel Temer could not escape hearing protests and shouts of "Out with Temer" upon his arrival at the hotel where he was to meet with US President Donald Trump for dinner.

Michel Temer said yesterday (18), after a working dinner with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and South American leaders, that Brazil has done everything possible to provide humanitarian aid to the Venezuelan people. Venezuela was one of the main topics discussed at the dinner with Trump, who demanded the "full" restoration of democracy and political freedoms in the country governed by Nicolás Maduro.

Temer gave a press conference to journalists after dinner with Trump, and Venezuela was the main topic. The Brazilian president said that the issue needs to be addressed from two angles: the humanitarian and the political. Regarding the humanitarian aspect, he said that Brazil sent medicine to Venezuela, and regarding the political aspect, he mentioned the meeting with Leopoldo Lopez, a politician who opposes Maduro.

“I myself reported that I received Leopoldo Lopez, I have maintained various contacts, I received his wife, his mother, to reveal Brazil's position regarding Venezuela,” he said. “People want democracy to be established there, they don't want external intervention, naturally. But they want demonstrations that expand, from the countries that are here to the countries of Latin America, to the Caribbean countries, in order to pressure for a democratic solution in Venezuela.”

According to Temer, no decision was made during the meeting, but the South American leaders highlighted the problem of Venezuelan refugees. “We have more than 30 refugees in Brazil, thousands of refugees in Colombia, and some even in Panama. And what happened was this: everyone wants to continue the pressure to resolve the issue. But diplomatic pressure,” he said.

Temer said that the possibility of sanctions against Venezuela was not effectively discussed. The topic was mentioned, but through diplomatic actions, as occurred in relation to Mercosur. "In Mercosur, when we held a meeting in Argentina, Venezuela was excluded from Mercosur, or rather, it never even got to join, because it did not comply with the democratic clauses," he said.
