247 - The Independent Legal Support Boat (ILSB) team, composed of legal professionals, accompanies the Global Sumud Flotilla on its journey to Gaza. Its crew consists of lawyers, legal experts, international observers, and academics in the fields of human rights and international law, all volunteers.

On August 22, 2025, the UN agency responsible for monitoring global hunger officially declared that all inhabitants of Gaza are suffering from man-made famine and are at risk of death as a result of the Israeli siege. This is the main reason the Flotilla was organized: to break the siege and deliver essential supplies to the Palestinian people.

The ILSB team is committed to carrying out the task with full respect for international law, independently and impartially, its members stated in a press release. “Our role is to analyze the legislation applicable to the mission. Legality is essential for the functioning of a global society; this is the impetus that will guide our team on the mission,” the ILSB affirms.

The ILSB team is traveling alongside the Flotilla to perform the following functions: monitor the Flotilla as it progresses on its mission; document the mission and observe the international legal standing that applies to it, including any potential violations of international law; preserve evidence of any violations of the law that may occur, for use in possible future proceedings.
