247 - Public figures from Israel sent a letter sent to The Guardian newspaper They called on the international community to impose "crippling sanctions" on the Asian country because of the genocide in the Gaza Strip, where, according to the local Ministry of Health, more than 60 Palestinians have died at the hands of Israeli forces since October 2023.

“The international community must impose crippling sanctions on Israel until it puts an end to this brutal campaign and implements a permanent ceasefire,” urged the document, published on Tuesday (29).

At least 31 people, including academics, artists, and public intellectuals, signed the letter. Among the signatories are Oscar winner Yuval Abraham, former Speaker of the Israeli Parliament and former head of the Jewish Agency, Avraham Burg, and former Israeli Attorney General Michael Ben-Yair.

Public figures emphasized that "no one should remain indifferent to the widespread famine affecting thousands of Gaza residents." "The situation is terrible and deadly. The primary moral response must begin with anguished hearts in the face of a human tragedy of such magnitude," they continued.

According to the document, “blocking food, water, medicine, and energy – especially for children,” as Israel is doing, “is indefensible.” “Let us not allow our grief to turn into indifference, nor let our love for Israel blind us to the cries of the vulnerable. Let us face the moral challenge of this moment.”
