Storm leaves three dead and more than 70 injured at Pukkelpop music festival that drew 60 people in Belgium
Three people died and more than 70 were injured on Thursday after a storm hit the site of an outdoor music festival in northeastern Belgium, local authorities said. Earlier, a Belgian newspaper reported that four people had died at the Pukkelpop festival, but the head of civil defense in the city of Hasselt told VRT radio that three bodies had been found. He also said that 71 people were injured, 11 of them seriously.
Images taken during the storm show people in the audience running for shelter as heavy rain and wind battered the festival site in Hasselt, 80 kilometers east of Brussels. Pukkelpop features multiple stages with simultaneous acts. The open-air music festival was scheduled to begin today, and according to Belgian media, approximately 60 people were in Hasselt to attend Thursday's performances.
