Sputnik - The city of Balakleia in the Kharkov region has been liberated from battalions of "Ukrainian nationalists," Major General Igor Konashenkov, an official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, told reporters on Thursday (3).
According to him, since the beginning of the special operation, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed more than 1.600 Ukrainian military installations.
According to the ministry, "Ukrainian nationalists" are preventing civilians from leaving Kyiv, Mariupol, and Kharkiv.
On Wednesday (2), the Russian Ministry of Defense called for the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of Ukrainian citizens. These measures will be reinforced on Thursday, the ministry said. According to the ministry, "Ukrainian nationalists" are preventing civilians from leaving Kiev, Mariupol and Kharkiv.
"The reliable information we have available is mainly about Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol, as well as some other locations. At the same time, the nationalists are hiding behind the civilian population, using them as human shields, in an attempt to provoke the use of weapons against innocent people," declared the head of the National Defense Center Administration, Mikhail Mizintsev, adding that the Russian Army will not fall for these provocations.
The Ministry of Defense also reported that it has deployed convoys to assist the local population and that all Ukrainians living in territories controlled by Russian forces will have access to basic necessities such as food and water. The ministry reported that more than 140 people have been evacuated from Ukraine to Russia, including 39 children.
"Given what we have mentioned, we appeal to all international organizations, without exception, as well as to the leadership of Ukraine, to immediately guarantee the creation of humanitarian corridors to provide access to safe locations for all citizens who wish to go," stated Mizintsev.
The official added that there are currently humanitarian corridors functioning perfectly in areas controlled by the Russian Armed Forces. Mizintsev said that Russia is counting on the involvement of all United Nations (UN) bodies, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and human rights organizations to cooperate in solving these problems.
