Europeans betrayed Lula's trust, says Jamil Chade.

The EU has been displaying its protectionist side and creating unpleasant situations for the Brazilian government in the negotiations of the trade agreement between the bloc and Mercosur.

247 - The proposal made by the Europeans regarding an environmental protocol to accompany the trade agreement between Mercosur and Europe, and Brussels' recent behavior, disappoint the Brazilian government, says journalist Jamil Chade in his column on the portal. UOL

The European Union had requested that the proposal be kept secret, but two weeks later, the text was leaked to European environmentalists, who denounced what they see as the agreement's inability to curb deforestation.

The journalist points out that the attitude of the Europeans towards the Lula government, which had pledged to reduce deforestation, broke the good faith of the process and even created greater pressure for the demands to be deepened.

Furthermore, the Europeans are making demands on Brazil that they never imposed in other agreements, such as in the case of Canada. They have also transformed voluntary commitments made by the country in multilateral agreements into binding obligations.

In a recent interview, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira did not hide his criticism of the Europeans, warning that Brasília would not accept unilateral measures or conditions imposed on how each Mercosur country should deal with its realities.
