The US makes no secret of its objective to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in Ukraine, says ambassador.
Anatoly Antonov observed that the Americans are seeking to turn Russia's partners and allies against Moscow.
TASS - Washington makes no secret of the fact that the US objective in Ukraine is to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia and exhaust it, said the Russian ambassador to the US, Anatoly Antonov, on Russian TV on Wednesday (February 1st).
"Political circles in Washington make no secret of the objective of their war on Ukrainian territory – to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, to exhaust and wear down our country," he said.
The Russian envoy noted that the Americans are seeking to turn Russia's partners and allies against Moscow.
"They want to create a barrier between us and the former Soviet republics; they threaten them with sanctions; they convince them that all cooperation with us must be stopped and all ties severed," he continued. "The Russophobes have decided to erase Russia's name from the world's political map. These ideas are not propaganda slogans or a figure of speech. This is a real situation in our relations."
"Russian-American relations are in terrible shape. The Americans have effectively destroyed everything we have built together in recent years. The level of Russophobia and distrust is off the charts," he concluded.
On Wednesday, the US imposed sanctions on 22 individuals and companies from different countries.
