US ambassador says US is ready to glorify Nazism in its 'maniacal desire to denigrate' Russia.
The Russian ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, commented on the visit of members of the Ukrainian neo-Nazi battalion Azov to the United States.
TASS - The United States seems to be increasingly forgetting the past and is now even ready to glorify Nazism in its "maniacal desire to denigrate" Russia, said the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov.
"It seems that in a maniacal desire to 'denime and abolish' Russia, the United States is even ready to glorify Nazism, against which the peoples of our countries fought heroically during the Second World War," he said in a statement released this Thursday (13).
The statement came in response to the visit of neo-Nazi members of the Azov Battalion from Ukraine to the United States and their involvement in "educational activities" on American soil.
"We have seen media reports about meetings between fighters from the Azov Battalion (considered a terrorist organization in Russia) and students from major US universities. Representatives of the neo-Nazi paramilitary organization spoke before an audience at Stanford University," he said.
"There is no doubt about the kind of ideas that Ukrainian terrorists – with blood on their hands from the murders of civilians – are spreading among young people," he said. "Let us remember the martyrs of Odessa burned alive in the House of Trade Unions in May 2014, the elderly, women and children of Donbass killed in atrocious and barbaric bombings by neo-Nazis."
He reiterated that the organization “professes a misanthropic and fascist ideology, of which the West is well aware.” “The official symbol of Azov is a sign of one of the SS divisions of Nazi Germany,” Antonov added.
“We would like to remind you that American lawmakers called on the US Secretary of State in 2019 to include Azov on the list of foreign terrorist organizations. It is an agency that recruits and trains far-right radicals around the world,” the diplomat continued.
"Is it really to defeat Russia on the battlefield that the Americans are going to align themselves with the fascist thugs of the Azov battalion and defend Nazi ideology?" he questioned.
The neo-Nazi Azov battalion in Ukraine was designated a terrorist organization by the Supreme Court of Russia on August 2, 2022. Its operations in Russia are prohibited.
