The new shipment of U.S. military aid includes air defense systems and artillery rounds, among other items, according to an announcement by the spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of Defense, Sabrina Singh.
"Today, the Department of Defense announces the authorization of a presidential withdrawal of security assistance valued at up to $400 million [R$ 2,1 billion] to address Ukraine's critical security and defense needs," Singh said during a press conference.
The new package includes missiles for Hawk air defense systems; four Avenger air defense systems and 192 Stinger missiles; additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS); 21 rounds of 155mm artillery; 500 precision-guided 155mm artillery rounds; 100 high mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicles (HMMWV), as well as demolition equipment for obstacle removal and cold weather protection equipment, Singh added.
According to the Pentagon, some training will be necessary for Ukrainian troops in order to use the four Avenger air defense systems that the United States will soon provide.
However, the spokesperson did not say when this training would be provided to the Ukrainians.
