US accuses Iran of plotting to kill Saudi diplomat.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi today denied US accusations that Tehran had plotted the assassination of the Saudi Arabian ambassador in Washington.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi on Wednesday rejected U.S. accusations that Tehran had plotted to assassinate the Saudi Arabian ambassador in Washington.

"America has created a pernicious scenario. But rest assured, they will apologize in the future," Salehi told reporters after a cabinet meeting, according to the Iranian news channel Alalam.

Several government officials and parliamentarians rejected the claim that Iran was carrying out such a plan. According to them, the accusation seeks to divert attention from US problems on the domestic front and in the Middle East. According to Salehi, Iranian relations with Saudi Arabia are "good."

US authorities said on Tuesday that two Iranians – one of whom is also a US citizen – were part of a plan "conceived, financed and directed by Iran" to assassinate Saudi Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir in a bomb attack. (Source: Dow Jones)
