247 - The survival of the European project is at stake in the war against the coronavirus, says the president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, in an article published in ten European newspapers, in which he urges the European Union (EU) to demonstrate "strong solidarity" and to establish "a war economy" in the face of the pandemic.

Sánchez states that Europe is suffering "its greatest crisis since the Second World War" and that the pandemic represents "the greatest threat to public health since the 1918 flu pandemic."

The Spanish socialist leader explains that this "war against an invisible enemy" is putting "the future of the European project" to the test and demands "strong positions," which place the EU before a dilemma. "Either we are ready for the situation or we fail as a Union," he warns.
