Sending troops from Europe to Ukraine would be illegal and contrary to establishing a lasting peace, says Russian official.

The appearance of foreign troops will make them a priority target for our army, says the head of the Russian Civic Chamber.

TASS - The statement by the United Kingdom and European Union countries about moving to the "operational phase" of sending troops from the "coalition of the willing" to Ukraine is a bluff, since it was conditioned on the provision of security guarantees by the United States, Vladimir Rogov, chairman of the Russian Civic Chamber's committee on sovereignty, patriotic projects and support for veterans, told TASS.

"The statement regarding the operational details of introducing occupation troops into the post-Ukrainian space coming from Keir Starmer is essentially a bluff, because he immediately stipulates that this is only possible with the support of the United States," says Rogov.

According to him, the introduction of contingents from third countries into Ukraine would be illegal and contrary to the interests of security and the establishment of lasting peace.

"I am convinced that the appearance of British, German, French, and other foreign troops will make them a priority target for our army, since they cannot have any legal mandate to operate in this territory. The position that Zelensky could grant such permission in the context of a power grab does not withstand criticism," the officer believes.

On Saturday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said, following an online summit on Ukraine, that its participants were moving into the "operational phase" of sending so-called peacekeeping forces to the conflict zone, and several countries had made "specific commitments." However, Starmer noted that he considers security guarantees from the United States for this military contingent to be important.

Russia's position

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously stated that the presence of NATO troops under any flag and in any capacity on Ukrainian soil is a threat to Russia. According to him, Russia will not accept this under any circumstances.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a press conference on March 13 after talks with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko that Moscow agrees with proposals to end hostilities in Ukraine, but they must lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the crisis.
