Ecuador's embassy in London was spied on.

According to Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, a British-made listening device was discovered in the office where WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been taking refuge for a year; he points to the suspicion that Surveillance Group Limited, one of the largest "secret surveillance" companies in the United Kingdom, is responsible.

247 The Ecuadorian government confirmed on Wednesday that its embassy in London was the target of espionage. According to Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño, a hidden microphone was discovered on June 14th in the office where WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been seeking asylum for a year. He stated that the country will demand an "explanation" from the responsible government.

He explained that the device is of British manufacture and works with a mobile phone SIM card.

Patiño, who did not explicitly link this discovery to Snowden's revelations about US espionage programs, said that preliminary investigations suspect that Surveillance Group Limited, one of the UK's largest "covert surveillance" companies, is responsible for the device.
