Russia and China need to coordinate their positions amid the volatile global situation, said Wang Yi.

Sputnik - The Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Nikolai Patrushev, held a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday with Wang Yi, director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs of the Chinese Communist Party.

Developing a strategic partnership with China is an unconditional priority of Russia's foreign policy, Patrushev told Wang.

The collective West is acting against Russia and China, as well as to the detriment of developing countries; in this sense, deepening Russian-Chinese coordination is of particular importance, he said.

"The bloody events unleashed by the West in Ukraine are just one example. All of this is being done against Russia and China, as well as to the detriment of developing countries. In the context of the campaign launched by the Western collective for the dual containment of Russia and China, deepening Russian-Chinese coordination and interaction in the international arena becomes even more important," said Patrushev.

"In this context, I want to reaffirm our unwavering support for Beijing on the issues of Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong, which are used by the West to discredit China," he added.

Russia and China need to coordinate their positions amid the volatile global situation, says Wang Yi.

"In the context of a volatile international situation, it is very important and timely to coordinate positions in depth on the bilateral agenda and on issues of an international and regional dimension," Wang said.

Russia and China need to develop "new steps in strategic cooperation in accordance with the changing situation," he added.

"I believe that today we have excellent opportunities to continue our close strategic interaction and contacts in defense of our common strategic interests."
