By Laís Gouveia, from Moscow – This Monday (20), the Brazilian ambassador to Russia, Sérgio Rodrigues dos Santos, received journalists from Brazil 247Leonardo Sobreira and Laís Gouveia met at the Brazilian Embassy in Moscow. The meeting was marked by a friendly and productive dialogue, in which central themes of international politics and bilateral cooperation were discussed.

During the conversation, the ambassador addressed the current situation of BRICS, Brazil's relations with the United States, and the trade landscape between Brazil and Russia.

Newly appointed to the position, which he assumed in August of this year, Sérgio demonstrated a great willingness to clarify fundamental points and reinforce the diplomatic commitment between the two countries.

The diplomat highlighted that trade relations between Brazil and Russia are solid, but still unbalanced. "Russia exports much more to Brazil than the other way around, and it is essential that we seek greater balance," he stated.

According to 2024 data, Brazil exported US$1,45 billion to Russia, mainly agricultural products, while Russia exported US$12,21 billion to Brazil, primarily fertilizers, a vital input for Brazilian agriculture.

Despite the imbalance, the ambassador stressed that Russia is interested in increasing its imports of Brazilian products, especially in a scenario of trade restrictions imposed by the United States and the European Union. In this context, he emphasized, BRICS plays a strategic role in bringing the two countries closer together.
