In a letter, the former president of Peru says he killed himself to avoid injustice.

"In this time of repeated rumors and hatred that the majority believe to be true, I have seen how procedures are used to humiliate, not to find truths. For many years I rose above the insults, I defended myself, and the tribute from my enemies was to argue that Alan García was intelligent enough that they could not prove their slander," wrote the former president before committing suicide.

In a letter, the former president of Peru says he killed himself to avoid injustice.

247 - Former Peruvian President Alan García, who committed suicide last Wednesday (17), left a letter in which he stated that he did not want to suffer the "injustice" of being imprisoned on charges of participating in a corruption scandal. In the letter, he says he has already fulfilled his mission.

"I saw others paraded in handcuffs, guarding their miserable existence, but Alan García has no reason to suffer this injustice and this circus, so I leave to my children the dignity of my decisions, to my companions a sign of pride, and my body as a sample of my contempt for my adversaries, because I have already fulfilled the mission I set for myself," he wrote.

The letter was read by one of his daughters during the funeral, which took place this Friday (19). He said he had already fulfilled his mission by bringing the Peruvian Aprista Party (PAP) to power, and that in 30 years of public life nothing had ever been found against him.

"In this time of repeated rumors and hatred that most believe to be true, I have seen how procedures are used to humiliate, not to find truths. For many years I rose above the insults, I defended myself, and the tribute from my enemies was to argue that Alan García was intelligent enough that they couldn't prove their slander," he said.
