247 - Amid growing tensions between the Brazilian far-right and the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), currently on leave, has adopted a new strategy: attempting to restrict potential US sanctions to Justice Alexandre de Moraes and his wife. According to the column by journalist [name missing]. Beautiful MegaleAccording to O Globo, the congressman has been working with President Donald Trump's administration to remove ministers Gilmar Mendes and Luís Roberto Barroso from the list of targets, who were initially considered for potential punishment.

According to the report, sources close to Eduardo claim that the White House signaled that the sanctions, foreseen in the Magnitsky Act, could reach Moraes, Gilmar, and Barroso. US legislation allows for the freezing of assets and bank accounts in the United States belonging to foreign officials involved in alleged human rights abuses or acts of corruption.

The expectation among those close to the congressman is that the measure will be formalized in the coming days, focusing exclusively on Moraes. The initiative arose after Eduardo Bolsonaro was pressured by allies—both inside and outside the PL—to signal a retreat, in order to facilitate a possible channel of dialogue with the Supreme Court and reduce the climate of confrontation.

Sources close to the congressman and former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) have been working to build a "bridge" with members of the Supreme Court. The ongoing maneuver seeks to isolate Alexandre de Moraes politically, presenting the exclusion of Gilmar Mendes and Luís Roberto Barroso as a political gesture that would open the way for a truce, even if only momentary.

Allies expect that, given Moraes' punishment, other ministers may reconsider their positions and accept the terms proposed by Eduardo Bolsonaro. According to these allies, the congressman reiterated that the final decision on sanctions rests exclusively with President Donald Trump, but that the signal has already been sent to the White House.

Despite attempts to de-escalate tensions, Supreme Court justices interviewed for this column rejected any possibility of reconciliation under this type of pressure. They expressed outrage at what they described as threats from abroad and questioned the legitimacy of Eduardo Bolsonaro's actions with the US government.

Behind the scenes, the congressman reportedly conditioned any agreement on three demands: the approval of a broad and unrestricted amnesty for Jair Bolsonaro and his allies who are facing charges in the Supreme Court, the removal of Alexandre de Moraes from the Court, and a guarantee that the 2026 presidential elections will be held with printed and auditable ballots.

These points, however, do not find support among the majority of ministers. For members of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the truce proposal presented by Eduardo Bolsonaro is unsustainable given demands they consider unacceptable. The assessment among the magistrates is that there is no room for progress in this type of negotiation.
