Eduardo Bolsonaro blackmails Brazil, suggests links to Hamas and Hezbollah, and calls for sanctions against Trump.
The orchestrator of a US aggression against Brazil, a suspended congressman, is blackmailing his own country to defend his family from alleged "unfair trials."
247 - In a video published this Sunday (13), the licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) again appealed to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, to impose sanctions against Brazilian authorities, based on the so-called Magnitsky Act. According to the column FishFinderAccording to O Globo, the recording, released on its social media, also shows an image of Vice President Geraldo Alckmin alongside leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah during the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, in an attempt to suggest, without evidence, that the Brazilian government maintains links with groups considered terrorist by the US government.
In the recording, Eduardo claims that members of the Workers' Party are committed to arresting him because of his international activities. He directly asks Trump and the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to take punitive measures against Brazilian officials.
“I humbly ask President Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, I ask you to apply the Magnitsky Act against these people. They are not ordinary politicians, they are criminals, dishonest people. Please do this to rescue our democracy,” says the congressman, adding that “almost all” members of his family face “unfair trials.”
Having left Brazil in March, Eduardo Bolsonaro has taken up residence in the United States, where he has sought political support among congressmen allied with Trump. His main objective is to obtain favorable signals for former president Jair Bolsonaro, as well as to promote punishments against the Supreme Federal Court (STF) minister, Alexandre de Moraes.
The congressman's central strategy is the application of sanctions foreseen in the Magnitsky Act, legislation adopted by the Barack Obama administration that allows penalties for foreign officials accused of violating human rights. If applied, the measure could include the freezing of assets, suspension of social media accounts, and cancellation of credit cards for Moraes and other targets.
In response to Eduardo's actions abroad, the Workers' Party (PT) filed a new petition with the Supreme Federal Court (STF) requesting his removal from office. The party argues that the congressman is acting "deliberately against the Brazilian State." The document was sent to the Supreme Court after President Donald Trump announced the imposition of 50% tariffs on Brazilian products. In the petition, the PT asks the STF to take "the necessary measures to hold Eduardo Bolsonaro accountable, as well as to take the necessary steps, together with the Chamber of Deputies, to promote the revocation of his mandate as a federal deputy."
Eduardo is being investigated in an inquiry initiated by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, at the request of the Attorney General's Office (PGR). The objective is to investigate possible attempts to obstruct investigations and acts aimed at the violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law. The PGR points to statements and posts by the parliamentarian on social media in which he defends the imposition of sanctions by the US against ministers of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and other Brazilian authorities.
In the US, the congressman has also been endorsing the tariff policy adopted by Trump against Brazil, and blames President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) for the worsening of diplomatic tensions between the two countries. In a recent publication, he argued that the measures should only be reviewed with a "broad, general and unrestricted amnesty" — a reference to the investigations targeting Jair Bolsonaro and his allies — in a coup d'état plot.
