Delegations from Brazil and several other countries leave the UN plenary during a speech by Netanyahu, the biggest killer of the 21st century (video).
Diplomats protested against the genocidal leader who disregards international norms and has already murdered more than 65 Palestinians – mostly women and children.
247 - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York on Friday (26) amid strong international pressure. Several countries allied with Israel — including France, the United Kingdom and Canada — formally recognized the Palestinian state, intensifying Tel Aviv's diplomatic isolation. Even before Netanyahu began his speech, dozens of diplomats from different nations left the plenary in protest.
“I will tell our truth,” Netanyahu declared before embarking for New York on Thursday (25). The Israeli prime minister considers that the recognition of the Palestinian state represents a political victory for Hamas after the attacks of October 7, 2023.
Internal pressure and disagreement with Donald Trump
Members of the Israeli cabinet are pressuring Netanyahu to respond to the international decision with the annexation, in whole or in part, of the West Bank. The move, however, would confront the current President of the United States, Donald Trump, who, in a meeting with Arab leaders on Thursday (25), assured that he would not allow such annexation.
Trump and Netanyahu are scheduled to meet next Monday (29) at the White House. The US president has repeatedly reiterated his desire to end the war in the Gaza Strip, while the Israeli leader has authorized a complex military operation to take Gaza City, the largest urban center in the Palestinian territory.
Prolonged war and popular protest
The military offensive faces growing opposition within Israel. Demonstrations gather thousands of people demanding the signing of a ceasefire. The war in Gaza has already caused more than 65 deaths, according to data from the local Ministry of Health, controlled by Hamas. There are still about 50 Israeli hostages held in Gaza, but only 20 of them are considered alive by the authorities in Tel Aviv.
