Brazil Agency - Back in Caracas (the Venezuelan capital) after a week in Cuba, Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez intensified his campaign for the October elections. Chávez responded to criticism from his opponents by stating that there is a "bourgeois coup plot" promoted by the opposition to defeat him in the election.

Chávez spent the last few days in Havana, the capital of Cuba, undergoing the third cycle of radiotherapy treatment to combat cancer. A malignant tumor reappeared in the pelvic region, exactly like the one identified last year. To fight the disease, the Venezuelan president underwent extensive treatment in Cuba.

In power since 1999, the Venezuelan leader called on young people to participate more in the election campaign and react intensely to what he called "imperialist pressure," referring to the opposition and foreign powers, without naming names.

The first round of elections in Venezuela is scheduled for October 7th. The second round is expected to take place on December 2nd. Chávez will face Henrique Capriles, from the opposition. The two frequently exchange criticisms and verbal attacks. According to official data, Chávez is ahead in the polls among Venezuelan voters.
