Cuba denounces strengthening of US blockade at the UN.

Latin Press - Cuba's permanent representative to the UN, Ana Silvia Rodríguez, denounced this Wednesday (24) at the General Assembly the strengthening of the United States' blockade against the island and its new unilateral sanctions.

The blockade not only remains in place, but is also reinforced by Washington's recent decision to allow lawsuits to be filed in US courts against Cuban or foreign entities outside of US jurisdiction, he warned.

The new regulations from the White House administration also prevent directors, and their family members, from entering Cuba if they are legitimately investing in properties that were nationalized by the Revolution, he explained.

Furthermore, the diplomat criticized the travel restriction imposed on American citizens who wish to go to the Caribbean country.

The United States is now applying additional financial sanctions against Cuba, a nation that for 60 years has been characterized by its internationalism, anti-imperialism, solidarity, and unity with the poorest, he emphasized.

My country has contributed to improving the living conditions of other peoples and nations, a true example of South-South cooperation, the diplomat indicated.

Ana Silvia Rodríguez also reiterated the island's solidarity with Venezuela. She said that no threat, blackmail, or ultimatum from the United States will deter the internationalist conduct of the Cuban nation, despite the damage caused by the blockade.

In this regard, the Cuban diplomat warned that Latin America and the Caribbean are experiencing a scenario of persistent threats incompatible with the declaration of the region as a zone of peace by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

The ambassador confirmed Cuba's commitment to working with the UN towards establishing a democratic and just international order that responds to the peoples' call for peace and justice.

In her speech at the high-level event for the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, Ana Silvia Rodríguez stated that this date should not be seen merely as a simple celebration, but as a reaffirmation of the collective duty and responsibility to preserve peace.

The Havana government remains committed to defending and promoting multilateralism, it asserted, in a context marked by growing threats to peace and security, unconventional warfare, gross violations of sovereignty, attempts to impose a unipolar order, and unilateral sanctions.

Therefore, the ambassador added, respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-intervention in internal affairs, and refraining from the threat or use of force, as well as striving for the peaceful resolution of disputes, are so important.

He emphasized that it is time to put an end to manipulation, politicization, and double standards on issues such as human rights, and to end extraterritorial laws like the blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States for over 60 years, which has been the subject of 27 opposing resolutions from the UN General Assembly.
