Cristina says Nisman's accusation was "shameful"

Argentine President Cristina Kirchner described as shameful the attitude of prosecutor Alberto Nisman, found dead days after filing a complaint against her in court; Nisman had requested an investigation into the alleged cover-up of high-ranking Iranian officials who were supposedly involved in a terrorist attack in the country. "Which Nisman do I side with? The one who accuses us of concealment or the one who addressed me acknowledging everything we had done?" she said, adding that Nisman praised the measures taken by her government to clarify what happened.

247 - Argentine President Cristina Kirchner described as shameful the attitude of prosecutor Alberto Nisman, found dead in his home a few days after filing a complaint against her in court. Nisman was requesting an investigation into the alleged cover-up of high-ranking Iranian officials who were supposedly involved in a terrorist attack in the country. "Which Nisman do I side with? The one who accuses us of concealment or the one who addressed me acknowledging everything we had done?" she questioned. According to her, Nisman praised the measures taken by her government to clarify what happened.

The prosecutor was found dead in his residence with a gunshot wound to the head on January 18, four days after denouncing the presidency. The case was carried forward by another prosecutor who used the complaint filed by Nisman as a basis. The accusation was not accepted by federal judge Daniel Rafecas, who said in his decision that there was no evidence against Cristina. "The case should be called Nisman against Nisman," she said during a speech given this Sunday (1).

"What happened between the time Prosecutor Nisman went on vacation and returned, when instead of presenting the document he was going to present, he filed a complaint?", he emphasized. Judge Rafecas highlighted that the text left by the investigator emphasized "absolutely positive considerations of the national government's state policy, from 2004 to the present day," he stated.
