North Korea holds military parade and displays new intercontinental missile.
The parade, which began late Friday, marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party.
SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw a large military parade showcasing his new intercontinental ballistic missile before international leaders and dignitaries, state media KCNA reported on Saturday (local time).
The parade, which began late Friday, marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party and followed Thursday's celebrations.
KCNA reported that the new Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile was displayed at the military parade.
During the military parade, Kim gave a speech in which he expressed "warm encouragement" to North Korean troops operating abroad and added that the heroism of his military would be seen not only in the defense of North Korean soil, but also in "outposts of socialist construction," KCNA reported.
Kim also spoke on Friday with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who led a delegation to Pyongyang for the occasion, KCNA said.
