Agency Brazil - The United Nations Security Council is due to meet today (13) to define possible reactions to the launch of the satellite by the North Korean government. South Korean and Japanese authorities reported that the rocket carrying the satellite into space disintegrated and fell into the sea. North Korea confirmed that there were failures in the launch.

For the international community, the decision to launch a rocket carrying a satellite, suspected of having military and nuclear purposes, violates UN principles. The United States, in reaction to the North Korean government's decision, suspended the delivery of 240 tons of food. North Korea is one of the most closed countries in the world and lives under a military socialist regime.

In a statement, the White House said that, despite the glitches, the satellite launch is considered a provocative act that threatens regional security and violates international law. The launch ceremony was part of the centennial celebrations of the birth of North Korea's founder, Kim Il-sung.

For the United States, China, Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany, the North Korean rocket will serve as a test for launching long-range missiles. According to foreign authorities, the satellite is disguised for peaceful purposes, but its objectives are military and nuclear.

In Japan, authorities put the Armed Forces on alert in the Ishigaki Island region because the rocket was headed in that direction. The Japanese warned that they are prepared to shoot down the rocket.
