Among other commitments, Brazil's most popular leader has been invited to speak at Columbia University in New York, one of the most prestigious universities in the United States and a member of the select group known as the Ivy League.
The former president is expected to repeat in the United States the same success he had during his recent trip to Europe, where he met with progressive leaders and prestigious intellectuals.
The invitation to speak at Columbia University came from an organization called Brazil Talk, formed six years ago by Brazilian students focused on Public and International Relations at the institution, reports the journalist. Laura Jardim in Globo.
The event organizers plan for Lula's speech to be moderated by economist Joseph Stiglitz, winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2001.
Stiglitz, whom Lula met in Brussels in November, endorsed the invitation extended by the Brazilian academic community at Columbia.
