247 - The Chinese government has reacted strongly to recent measures imposed by the United States against Central American countries that maintain diplomatic and commercial relations with Beijing, reports Telesur. According to the news outlet, Beijing lodged a formal protest with Washington, classifying the visa restrictions imposed by the US government as an act of harassment and a violation of international law.

The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo JiakunHe strongly criticized the US sanctions and pressure, stating that the United States places its domestic laws above global rules. "The actions of the US are a clear example of harassment and violate the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states," declared Jiakun.

The diplomat emphasized that the unilateral sanctions imposed by Washington "undermine the legitimate rights and interests of other nations," and are based on "malicious and unfounded accusations" about trade between China and Central American countries.

Jiakun also condemned the use of visas as a tool of pressure, stating that such a practice “will not intimidate those who support the just cause nor harm the flourishing ties between China and Central American countries.” The spokesperson added that this stance from Washington “only exposes the deeply ingrained arrogance and prejudice of certain American officials.”

Finally, the Chinese representative reaffirmed Beijing's commitment to regional cooperation, stating that China will continue to be a "good friend and partner" of the Central American nations. According to him, the goal is to strengthen the building of a community between China, Latin America, and the Caribbean based on a "shared future."

The increased Chinese diplomatic and commercial presence in Central America has provoked an increasingly aggressive response from Washington, which seeks to limit the expansion of Beijing's influence in the region. Measures include visa restrictions and sanctions against Central American officials and businesspeople who have expanded their cooperation with China.
