247, with Diário do Povo online - "China firmly opposes a US human rights report that makes unfounded accusations against China," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang on Thursday (15), calling on the US to stop interfering in China's internal affairs.
Lu made the statements while commenting on the 2018 Human Rights Practices Reports, released by the U.S. State Department, which again criticized the human rights situation in China.
As in previous years, the content related to China in this year's report "is riddled with ideological biases, disregards facts, confuses right with wrong, and makes unfounded accusations against China," Lu stated.
"China firmly opposes this and has made solemn statements to the American side," Lu said at a press conference.
"The Chinese government attaches great importance to the protection and promotion of human rights," Lu said. "Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, particularly in the past four decades of reform and opening up, tremendous progress has been made in the field of human rights."
"Our achievements are obvious to everyone," Lu said, adding that China will continue to advance on the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Lu called on the US to abandon its Cold War mentality and ideological bias, to address the human rights situation in China objectively and fairly, and to stop using this pretext to interfere in China's internal affairs.
Lu stated that the US should reflect on its own human rights situation and address its own problems first.
