Sputnik Brazil - China has offered medical professionals to Brazil to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

According to a column published by journalist Mônica Bergamo in the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, China has decided to offer doctors to Brazil. The help was offered in the context of the fight against the new coronavirus pandemic and was reportedly confirmed by Chinese Minister-Counselor Qu Yushui on Friday (10).

According to the column, however, the Ministry of Health stated that it does not yet have this type of perspective and prioritizes aid for importing medical equipment and supplies.

Recently, China and Brazil experienced diplomatic tensions due to comments made by federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro and the Minister of Education, Abraham Weintraub, who published offensive opinions regarding the Asian country in relation to the pandemic. Both were officially reprimanded by the Chinese diplomatic representation in Brazil.

The incident raised concerns about the supply of hospital equipment exported by China; however, despite the criticism, the Chinese delegation assured that it intends to maintain the friendly relations between the two countries.

In Brazil, according to figures from the Ministry of Health, there are 19.943 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1.074 deaths caused by the disease.
