China Radio International Canada recently published its Indo-Pacific strategy stating that China does not respect certain principles and rights in the region. In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Monday (28) that the strategy exaggerates the so-called "China threat," in addition to making unfounded accusations against the country. The Chinese government has lodged a serious representation with the Canadian side.

Zhao Lijian stated that China's development is an opportunity for the world and a growth of peaceful power on the global stage. No matter how much it develops, the country will not pursue either hegemony or expansionism. Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong are purely internal Chinese affairs, in which external interference is intolerable.

The spokesperson emphasized that Canada has reiterated its commitment to improving bilateral relations. The Canadian side must pursue a rational and pragmatic policy toward China, fulfilling its promises through action.
