Sputnik Agency China stands firmly against US sanctions imposed on Chinese companies for alleged links to Russia and will take necessary measures to protect the rights and interests of its companies, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce said on Monday.

Last week, the United States unveiled a new package of sanctions against Russia. In addition to one hundred Russian businesspeople and companies, the sanctions also included companies from China, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries.

"The US actions are a typical example of unilateral sanctions, extraterritorial jurisdiction, and economic coercion. They undermine the rules and order of international trade and economics, and harm the security and stability of global production and supply chains. China strongly opposes this," the ministry said in a statement.

China "will take the necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies," the statement added.

Western countries have increased sanctions pressure on Moscow since the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
