China says rejecting Huawei means abandoning opportunities and growth.
“Choosing Huawei is choosing opportunities and growth, and rejecting Huawei is rejecting opportunities and growth,” stated Liu Xiaoming, the Chinese ambassador to the United Kingdom.
247 - Commenting on the British government's stance against Chinese technology, the Asian country's ambassador to the United Kingdom, Liu Xiaoming, pointed out the error of that choice. His statements were given in an interview with The Times.
“I would say that rejecting Huawei is rejecting the future,” Liu asserted, adding that “5G truly represents the future.”
“Huawei is the leader in 5G, and China is also a leader in 5G,” he said, “so 5G represents the future not only for industry but also for our daily lives.”
The Chinese ambassador said that the Chinese company “became a clear example of mutually beneficial Sino-British cooperation,” reports the People's Daily.
Commenting on London's recent change of course regarding Huawei, which has operated in the country for 20 years, Liu said: "I think the UK missed an opportunity to be a leading country in this area."
Last Tuesday, Huawei said the British government's move to ban the company's involvement in 5G networks is "a regrettable decision" that "threatens to push the UK away from digital development, increase costs and deepen the technological gap."
“This disappointing decision is bad news for anyone in the UK with a mobile phone,” said Ed Brewster, a Huawei spokesperson, in a statement.
The British government announced on Tuesday that the purchase of new 5G equipment from Huawei will be banned from December 31, 2020, and that all equipment from the brand will be removed from British 5G networks by the end of 2027.
In January, London announced its plans to secure the country's telecommunications network, which was then interpreted as assigning Huawei a role in building the country's 5G network.
