247, with HispanTV - In a press conference this Monday (7), the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lu Kang, warned that the sending of American vessels to the waters of the South China Sea violates its sovereignty; the Ministry asks the White House to put an end to measures that can be interpreted as provocations.

The statement was issued after a USS McCampbell-class destroyer entered the area disputed between China and other Asian countries. The area is claimed by Beijing.

US spokesperson for the Pacific Fleet, Rachel McMarr, defended the incursion. In her statement, the US representative said it was an exercise of "freedom of navigation."

The South China Sea is the subject of a dispute between China and other Asian countries, and this is not the first time the US has created tension by sending warships and aircraft there, always under the pretext of exercising "freedom of navigation."
