China says dialogue is the best option to resolve the US-Korea crisis.

China said on Wednesday that the North Korean nuclear issue should be resolved through dialogue, and that military means are not an option, after US President Donald Trump warned Pyongyang that any US military option would be "devastating" for the Asian country.

Reuters China said on Wednesday that the North Korean nuclear issue should be resolved through dialogue, and that military means are not an option, after US President Donald Trump warned Pyongyang that any US military option would be "devastating" for the Asian country.

Belligerent statements from Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in recent weeks have sparked fears that a miscalculation could lead to actions with unimaginable repercussions, especially after the regime conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test on September 3.

In a daily press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang reiterated that his country has always upheld the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and protecting the international nuclear non-proliferation system.

"At the same time, we are determined to work for the protection of peace and stability on the peninsula and to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the nuclear issue through dialogue and consultation," Lu said.

“We have always believed that military means should not be an option for resolving the nuclear issue on the peninsula. Because weapons cannot resolve differences and can only cause a greater disaster. Neither side can accept that,” he added.

"We hope that all sides can avoid words and actions that intensify the problem and could cause the situation to continue escalating."

North Korea will be a major topic of discussion when U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson visits China later this week.
