China highlights the fight against US hegemonic power as one of its greatest diplomatic successes.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry criticized the policy of the US and its Western allies, whose objective is to intimidate Beijing.
Sputnik - The successful fight against US hegemony was one of the greatest achievements of Chinese diplomacy this year, said Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, on Sunday (25).
Wang sees relations between Beijing and Washington as complicated by the confrontational approach of the US government.
"Because the United States stubbornly continued to regard China as its main competitor and took blatant measures of blockade, repression, and provocation against China, Sino-American relations plunged into serious difficulties," he said.
"[...] We are not intimidated by any hegemonic power nor by its harassment, and we act with determination to safeguard China's core interests and national dignity," the foreign minister said at the Symposium on the International Situation and China's Foreign Relations.
He pointed to Taiwan as being "at the center of China's fundamental interests," and being "the cornerstone of the political foundation of China-US relations, and a red line that must not be crossed in China-US relations." Beijing's actions, he asserts, "have strongly deterred anti-China elements in the US and forces advocating for 'Taiwan independence,' and have demonstrated our iron will to safeguard sovereignty and national security."
The minister said that to counter the US and its Western allies, and to defend their national interests, Chinese authorities have successfully used the UN platform and managed to gain the support of more than 100 countries.
