A shopping center in Brussels was evacuated due to a bomb threat, the RTL agency reported today (21). A suspected terrorist was arrested following a bomb threat at a commercial building located in the center of Brussels.

According to Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, the situation is "very serious," the agency said. He called an emergency meeting.

The area around the City 2 shopping center is surrounded by police, and firefighters are on the scene, according to the broadcaster.

"A man was arrested this morning at 5:30 a.m. local time (00:30 in Brasília). He is suspected of looking for the location to plant explosives. The Army's bomb squad is checking the site," said the spokesman for the Brussels prosecutor's office, quoted by Reuters.

"There is a threat because the police were informed that a man was carrying an explosive belt, which could still be inside the building," said an RTL reporter.

On March 22, 2016, a series of explosions occurred in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Two of them hit Zaventem International Airport and one hit the Maelbeek metro station. The city was practically paralyzed, as public transport was almost completely cut off.

As a result of the airport bombings carried out by suicide bombers Ibrahim Bakraoui and Najim Laachraoui, more than 30 people died and more than 170 were injured.

The third suicide bomber, Mohamed Abrini, failed to blow himself up, fled, but was arrested in April.
