Célia Xakriabá will file a complaint with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ethics Council against Kataguiri for racism and misogyny; understand why.
The congresswoman was called a "peacock cosplayer" during a debate on environmental licensing and stated that an attack on her headdress is an attack on indigenous identity.
247 - Federal deputy Célia Xakriabá (PSOL-MG) announced that she will appeal to the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Ethics Council of the Chamber of Deputies against Kim Kataguiri (União Brasil-SP), accusing him of racism, misogyny and breach of parliamentary decorum. The initiative was motivated by offenses directed at the indigenous parliamentarian during the tumultuous session that analyzed the bill to make environmental licensing more flexible, held in the early hours of Wednesday (16) to Thursday (17).
According to FSPThe episode began when Kataguiri, in a speech on the floor, referred to the congresswoman as a "peacock cosplay," a derogatory allusion to the feathers of her headdress, a symbol of her indigenous origin. The provocation generated immediate protests, including a heated exchange that ended in pushing and shoving among the parliamentarians.
Also during the session, Representative Rodolfo Nogueira (PL-MS), without mentioning names, ironically asked: "how does environmental licensing work for culling peacocks?", insinuating a connection between the animal and Célia's headdress, reinforcing the hostile environment.
Célia firmly rebutted Kataguiri, saying that he “looks like a foreign, reborn congressman.” In a later statement, she reinforced the seriousness of the situation: “What we saw was an attempt to silence an Indigenous woman through racism and misogyny. When they attack my headdress, they are not attacking an adornment. They are attacking the identity of an entire people, the ancestry I carry, and the right to occupy this space with dignity.”
