Cameron promises a tough response to the Islamic State.

British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Saturday that he would use "all available means" to try to find hostages held by the Islamic State and defeat the insurgent group; he added: "In terms of what we are going to do, we are going to use all available means to try to find these hostages, try to help these hostages and do everything possible to defeat this cruel, senseless and barbaric organization in the way it treats people."

LONDON (Reuters) - British Prime Minister David Cameron said on Saturday that he would use "all available means" to try to find hostages held by the Islamic State and defeat the insurgent group.

Speaking after the release on Friday of a video showing the decapitated body of Alan Henning, a Briton who was part of a humanitarian aid convoy, Cameron said the country was in mourning.

He added: "In terms of what we're going to do, we're going to use every means available to try to find these hostages, try to help these hostages, and do everything possible to defeat this cruel, senseless, and barbaric organization in the way it treats people."

Henning was part of a humanitarian aid convoy carrying medicine to a hospital in northeastern Syria in December when he was kidnapped by gunmen.

Cameron said that appeals to spare the life of the 47-year-old taxi driver from Salford, northern England, had no effect.
