A chambermaid describes how she was attacked by Strauss-Kahn.
In an exclusive interview with Newsweek magazine, Nafissatou Diallo recounts that the former IMF president received her in his room naked, closed the door, and tried to grab her.
247 – The American magazine Newsweek featured an exclusive interview on its cover with Nafissatou Diallo, the chambermaid who accuses former IMF president Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault. The 32-year-old Guinean woman recounts in her first interview since the incident that, on May 14th, upon entering room 2806 of the Sofitel Hotel, she called twice but received no answer. Upon entering the suite, the chambermaid said loudly, “Hello, room service,” and found herself confronted by a gray-haired man who was unclothed. The chambermaid apologized and heard the man reply, “You have nothing to apologize for.” According to the woman's account, Strauss-Kahn closed the door and attempted to touch her breasts.
The story, which was published on the cover of Newsweek, tells a bit about the life of the chambermaid, who had to clean 14 rooms a day for a wage of US$25 an hour, not counting tips. According to the young woman's account, before entering the room, Nafissatou Diallo heard from a waiter that there was no one else there. "You're beautiful," said Strauss-Kahn, after closing the door. The young woman asked him to stop, claiming she would lose her job, but he assured her: "You won't lose your job."
According to the chambermaid's account, Strauss-Kahn pushed her forcefully onto the bed and tried to put his penis in her mouth. Diallo shook her head from side to side to resist. “I pushed him away and stood up. I wanted to scare him,” the young woman told the magazine. She threatened him, saying the supervisor would be nearby, but he said there was no one there and no one would hear. Diallo continued to push him away, always afraid of hurting him and losing her job. “I want him to go to prison. I want him to go somewhere where he can't use power or money,” said the young woman, complaining that, because of the Frenchman, she has been called a prostitute.
