Bolsonaro and Trump are expected to have their first meeting at a far-right event in the US.
Jair Bolsonaro and former US President Donald Trump will participate in the Annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), which will be held in March in Washington.
247 - Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is expected to meet with former US President Donald Trump during "a conservative event that will bring together right-wing leaders from around the world in Washington, D.C., between March 1 and 4," according to the newspaper. The GlobeBolsonaro has been in Florida since the end of last year, when he left Brazil a few days before the end of his term as head of the Federal Executive branch.
According to the report, Trump's participation in the far-right event was confirmed on the website of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). Bolsonaro's presence at the conference was confirmed by the Washington Examiner. In addition to the former Brazilian president, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro will also give a lecture during the event.
In 2021, the congressman was one of those responsible for organizing a CPAC event in Brazil. On that occasion, the Federal Police detained businessman Jason Miller, Trump's former right-hand man, at Brasília International Airport to investigate his alleged participation in organizing anti-democratic acts in Brazil.
Jair Bolsonaro is the target of five investigations underway at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and two criminal cases in which he is a defendant. Last week, seven requests for investigation against Bolsonaro were sent to the lower courts by STF Justice Cármen Lúcia. Outside the Presidency of the Republic, he loses the prerogative of being tried in a special court.
He is also being investigated for encouraging his supporters to promote the terrorist acts of January 8th in Brasília, when Bolsonaro supporters and far-right militants vandalized the headquarters of the Three Branches of Government.
In an interview with the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, Bolsonaro said he could return in March.Although he did not set a date for his return to Brazil, he admitted at the time that he feared being arrested after landing in Brazil. "An arrest warrant could appear out of nowhere," he said.
