Bolsonaro says he will send 'concrete aid' to Lebanon.
Jair Bolsonaro said he will send humanitarian aid to Lebanon after the explosion in the port area that devastated part of the capital. "Brazil will do more than a gesture, something concrete, to help, in part, those tens of thousands of people who are in a very complicated situation," he said.
Reuters President Jair Bolsonaro said on Wednesday that Brazil will send aid to Lebanon after a massive explosion in Beirut's port area rocked the country's capital the previous day.
"Brazil will do more than just a gesture, something concrete, to help, in part, those tens of thousands of people who are in a very difficult situation," Bolsonaro said at the end of a ceremony at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, stating that he had called the Lebanese ambassador to Brazil.
Immediately after leaving the location, the president told reporters that the government is in contact with representatives of the Lebanese community in São Paulo to determine what type of aid will be sent. Bolsonaro only mentioned that a KC-390 military cargo plane is available for this task.
A massive explosion at warehouses in the port of Beirut on Tuesday killed at least 100 people, injured 4, and sent shockwaves that shattered windows, damaged buildings, and shook the ground in the Lebanese capital.
