247 - Jair Bolsonaro (PL) travels to the Russian capital, Moscow, this Monday (14) amid extreme tensions between the country and Ukraine and Ukrainian allies, such as the United States. Bolsonaro will take a 16-hour flight and five Covid tests, complying with the Kremlin's health requirements.

The West, represented in this scenario by the US and NATO, has been talking for days about an "imminent risk" of a Russian invasion of Ukraine. Bolsonaro was advised to cancel his trip, but he maintained the schedule, justifying it by saying that trade relations with Russia are strategic for Brazilian sectors such as agribusiness and energy.

>>> Relations between Russia and the United States are at rock bottom, says Kremlin spokesman.

With an eye on the elections, Bolsonaro is also seeking to register a meeting with a global leader in an attempt to demonstrate some international prestige.

Due to the omicron variant, the Brazilian delegation will have only one day of agenda in Russia, including a lunch with the country's president, Vladimir Putin. A joint statement is also planned. Bolsonaro will visit the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and meet with the leader of the lower house of the Russian Parliament, the Duma. Afterwards, he will participate in a meeting of business leaders from both countries.

On Thursday, the Brazilian travels to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, where he will meet with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
