Sputnik - "The decision will be mine," says Bolsonaro about participating in an invasion of Venezuela. The statement was given during an interview with Rádio Jovem Pan, on Monday (8). Bolsonaro stated that if a military invasion against Caracas occurs, he will consult Congress, but will make the decision personally.

"Let's suppose there's a military invasion there [Venezuela], the decision will be mine, but I will listen to the National Defense Council, and then the Brazilian Parliament, to actually make the decision on this matter. Venezuela cannot continue as it is," he said.

The National Defense Council is an advisory body to the Presidency of the Republic, composed of ministers, members of Congress, and military personnel.

The president also stated that a potential conflict in Venezuela would likely involve a guerrilla war and that this situation could prolong the conflict. "How are we going to resolve this issue? How long are we going to keep fighting a situation like this? Perhaps through the embargo you can pressure the government to fall."

Bolsonaro said that the United States "is at the forefront" of the Venezuelan situation and that the objective is to create discontent among President Nicolás Maduro's military.

Regarding the "humanitarian aid" sent by Brazil and the United States to Caracas, Bolsonaro said that it "largely" achieved its objective, which was to turn the population against Maduro. "The intention of the United States, and ours as well, is to create a fissure, a division in the Venezuelan army. There is no other way."
