The International Atomic Energy Agency is trying to clarify how Iran amassed uranium enriched to 84% purity -- the highest level ever found by inspectors in the country and only 6% below what is needed for a nuclear weapon.

According to intelligence Despite being opposed to the United States, Iran has not resumed efforts to acquire nuclear weapons. Tehran claims to have the technical capability to produce a nuclear bomb, but no political decision has been made regarding this option.

A fatwa issued by the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prohibits Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. A nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers was undone after then-US President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the process in 2018 and reinstated sanctions.
