247 - The UN Security Council should reject calls for peace in Ukraine from countries that support Russia's military operation, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Friday.

"I hope that many countries will call for peace today," Blinken told the UN Security Council. "But history teaches us that it is the nature of peace that matters. For peace to be just, it must uphold the core principles of the UN Charter... in the UN Charter." "No member of this council should call for peace while supporting Russia's war against Ukraine and against the UN Charter."

Blinken argued that Russia is the "sole aggressor" in the conflict, adding that if Ukraine stops fighting, it would mean its end.

Speaking at the UN Security Council, Blinken pointed the finger at Russia to condemn the 'seizure of territories by force'.

“Nations around the world continue to support Ukraine because we all recognize that if we abandon Ukraine, we abandon the very UN Charter and the principles and rules that make all our countries safer and more secure: No taking land by force. No erasing another country’s borders. No targeting civilians in war,” Blinken said. “If we don’t uphold these basic principles, we invite a world where might makes right, the strong dominate the weak.” (With Sputnik).
