American activist protests against coup in Venezuela at OAS meeting.
"I am horrified by this ongoing coup d'état," said Medea Benjamin, an activist with the US pacifist organization Code Pink, during the extraordinary session of the Organization of American States (OAS, OAS, in its English acronym), held this Thursday (24).
247, with HispanTV - "I am horrified by this ongoing coup d'état," said Medea Benjamin, an activist with the US pacifist organization Code Pink, during the extraordinary session of the Organization of American States (OAS, OAS, in English), held this Thursday (24).
Medea burst into the meeting room with a sign asking the OAS not to support a "coup d'état" in Venezuela, just as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was concluding his speech.
The US Secretary of State has asked the 34 member countries of the OAS to recognize Juan Guaidó as the "interim president" of Venezuela.
The United States failed to get the OAS to approve a resolution formally recognizing Guaidó as interim president.
The Venezuelan Foreign Minister praised the activist on Twitter: "A brave and supportive gesture today at the OAS from comrade Medea Benjamin, activist of the US NGO Code Pink. With her protest, she revealed the macabre coup plot against Venezuela. We will always win! Thank you!"
