Brazil Agency - At least 42 people, mostly Syrian rebels, died in a car bomb attack northeast of Al-Bab, a stronghold of the Islamic State group, which was retaken the previous day from the extremists, according to the non-governmental organization Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reported this Friday (24). The information is from Radio France Internationale.

"Less than 24 hours after the defeat of the Islamic State group, a suicide bomber attacked two rebel headquarters in the city of Susian, northeast of Al-Bab, in northern Syria," said Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Observatory.

Syrian rebels, backed by Turkey, captured the city on Thursday (23). The two rebel headquarters are close to each other. Susian is just 8 kilometers from Al Bab, the last major city still under Islamic State control in Aleppo province, in northern Syria.

The attack also left many people seriously injured, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has a wide network of sources throughout the country.

Turkish forces and Syrian rebels launched a military offensive on December 10, 2016, to recapture the city of Al-Bab, located 25 kilometers south of the Turkish border. The recapture of the city is a major victory for Ankara, which began a military operation in northern Syria in August to expel extremists from the vicinity of its border.
