Reuters US President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Orlando on Thursday to meet with survivors of the massacre at a gay nightclub and relatives of the 49 victims, as US authorities consider whether or not to charge the wife of the shooter.
Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old American citizen born in New York and the son of Afghan immigrants, also wounded 53 people during a three-hour attack that became the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has questioned Mateen's second wife, Noor Salman, who knew of his plans, according to a law enforcement source, and prosecutors are preparing to present evidence against her before a federal grand jury.
Noor has not made any public comments since the attack, which took place at 2 a.m. on Sunday.
"I can assure you that we are working with our law enforcement partners to find out everything we can about what happened at the Pulse nightclub," said Lee Bentley, attorney general for the Middle District of Florida.
