247 - The Minister of Racial Equality, Anielle Franco, sister of Marielle Franco, a city councilwoman from Rio de Janeiro who was killed in an ambush in 2018, was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 12 women of the year in 2023.

Anielle is featured in a profile published by Time magazine, which states that "Brazil's Minister of Racial Equality never planned to enter politics." "Then her sister was murdered," the profile highlighted.

"Anielle's tragic family history, warm personality, and skillful use of social media have transformed the once reserved Anielle into an unlikely leader in the movement for Black rights in Brazil," the magazine described.

The list also includes actresses, such as Cate Blanchett and Angela Bassett, and athletes, such as Ramla Ali and Megan Rapinoe.

"Very proud and emotional to be the first and only Brazilian nominated as "Woman of the Year" among the twelve chosen by the American magazine Time. I am very happy and I am not alone, this recognition is not just mine, it belongs to all black women in Brazil," said Anielle on her social media.

President Lula also used his social media to congratulate the minister.
